1) TINNEY, John (1707?-1761), Compendium anatomicum: or a compendious treatise of anatomy adapted to the arts of painting and sculpture; selected images only; with a paper by K.F. Photographic reproduction of a copy of the first edition in Dept of Medical History, University of Melbourne. Collation: 2° [5] leaves. Reprint. Eight plates. 'There is no leaf of explanations for plates VII, VIII nor is this present in any other edition. Originally issued stabbed and sewn, probably in a coloured wrapper. Plates I, II, IV, V, VI are from Vesalius, III, VII, VIII from Cowper.' (Russell British Anatomy 816). Russell Paper (7 leaves). 'Tinney was a print seller and engraver who produced maps, topographical and architectural engravings. He dedicated his book to Frank Nicholls (1699-1778)' (Russell British Anatomy 816).

Collation Brief: Title, iii-xii, 246pp, 10pp. Gilpin was a painter and collector of prints, who forwarding the idea of the 'picturesque' in English society. Lavater was a Swiss Physician and pioneer in the use of the small pox vaccination, introducing it to Zurich in 1800.
