1) ELSHOLTZ, Johann Sigismund (1623-1688) 'Clysmatica nova: sive ratio, qua in venam sectam madicamenta immitti possint, ut eodem, nodo, ac si per os assumta fuissent, operentur: addita etiam omnibus seculis inaudita sanguinis transfusione' (a new clysmatic: or a method by which laxatives can be introduced into a cut vein, so that they work in the same way, as if they had been taken by mouth: also adding a blood transfusion, unheard of in all ages). Elsholt was physician to the Elector of Brandenburg. In this book he introduces the intravenous method of giving drugs and also the transfusion of blood.

Brunner was professor at Heidelberg and physician to the Elector. This is the first account of the glands of the duodenum now named after the author.

Andry was professor in the Collége de France and later dean of the Faculté de Medecine. His book is a surgical classic.
'The first book on orthopaedics, which term Andry himself introduced. He advised attention to proper posture in the prevention and correction of spinal curvature; he had a practical knowledge of body mechanics. This is also the first book on diseases of children to include mention of chlorosis.' (Garrison & Morton 4301).
