Aselli was professor of surgery and anatomy at Pavia. He lived most of his life in Milan where he had an extensive practice. His De lactibus contains the earliest examples of colour printing in anatomy.
'Records the discovery of the lacteal vessels. Aselli's book has also the distinction of including the first anatomical plates printed in colours (four chiaroscuro woodcuts, 16"x10") Reprinted Leipzig 1968; Milan, 1972.' (Garrison & Morton 1094).
