Hong Kong Plague Medal 1894 Awarded to Private G Turner, S.L.I. (Shropshire Light Infantry) This medal was issue by the Hong Kong Government to 300 men of the Shropshire Light Infantry and 50 members of the Navy and Royal Engineers. It is not authorised for wear on military uniforms, as it is not an official service medal. Thirteen gold versions were presented to officers and possibly a few nursing sisters. The bubonic plague lasted from 5 May to 3 September 1894, after which the port was declared free of infection.
