'The only publication of one of the earliest scientific societies, active from 1644 to 1673. Founded by Gerard Bales, and numbering Jan Swammerdam among its members, the college devoted itself to comparative anatomical and physiological investigations of the lower vertebrates, concentrating primarily on fishes and mammals. The above works contain the first publication of Swammerdam's early experiments with neuro-muscular physiology. Other portions of the works were probably written by Blaes.' Young, in the Department of Fine Art of the University of Reading in Berkshire, England, and completed on the 18th day of March, 1938. The portrait and illustrations have been faithfully engraved on wood by R. J. Beedham and the text has been printed from photostats kindly supplied by the authorities of the British Museum. The edition consists of 100 copies only, of which this is number 98.' Binding in quarter red leather with grey paper with gold crest.
