Culpepers translation of Rolan's anatomy appeared first in 1657, then in 1665 and finally in 1671. The W.R. on the title was William Rand. 'It is entered in the Term Catalogues under 30 May 1671, price bound 12s.' (Russell 705) 'This is a translation of Riolan's Encheiridium anatomicum et pathologicum, Leyden, Wyngaerden, 1649. The plates are identical with those used by Culpeper in his translation of Vesling pub. in 1653 and indeed to those in the original Latin edition of Vesling's Syntagma anatomicum, Padua, Frambotti, 1647. Culpeper's co-author was William Rand as revealed in the recently discovered second edition of 1665 (see 704a)' (Russell 705). References pertain to British Anatomy 1525-1800 Second Edition, K.F.
