Douglas was a well known teacher of anatomy in London where he practised midwifery. He was responsible for William Hunter coming to London. Douglas is best known for his description of the pouch of Douglas in the peritoneal cavity. He wrote on the peritoneum and produced an excellent bibliography of anatomy. His book on the muscles was translated into Latin and Dutch. Rebound by Gray of Cambridge 1955 in quarto red morocco, marbled boards and vellum corners. This is the binding adopted by the Royal College of Surgeons for their rare books which require rebinding. Title page foxed, contents mostly very clean, binding good.
