Large Blue Heeler Archive - Manna, The Personality Dog. In the early 1940s a stray blue heeler dog, Manna, came into the life of Alan & Sylvia Evans. Alan Evans was the staff photographer for the George Davis group of companies which included Davis Gelatine, Cockatoo Docks & Engineering, and Glen Davis shale oil plant. The Evans' transformed the long suffering Manna into 'The Personality Dog' and published a book from the point of view of Manna titled Tail Up! in 1944. Manna was also featured in PIX magazine in various wartime guises, as a nurse, wearing a gas mask and other difficult poses. This lot comprises many hundreds of items: photographs (incl. other dogs), 10 copies of Tail Up!, 16mm Manna movie reel, letters, calendars, numerous hand written notes and drafts, multiple hundreds of negatives (in titled envelopes), 2 printing blocks and much associated ephemera. Also included is the cast iron blind signature stamp of Alan Evans for application to printed photos and 2 transcripts of his eulogy given at St. Stephen's Church (Macquarie St.) in April 1963. Condition is mixed, the majority of photos and negatives are very good to good, whereas the paper items show ageing, handling and effects of long term storage. Refer to images.
