PITCAIRN: The Island, The People, and the Pastor. Rev. Thomas Murray. Published by Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge, London, 1860. Twelfth edition (first 1853) 414pp. + 18 engravings. Covers the history from the Mutiny to eventual transfer to Norfolk Island, under the influence of missionary/surgeon/teacher Nobbs who had doggedly made his way from Valparaiso to Pitcairn in 1827. Gilt 'Bounty' decorated blue cloth boards are in poor condition, worn corners, faded and spine very darkened. Rear board detached and hanging by binding tapes. Front free endpaper missing. Text block dusted, contents have toning to page edges, some pencil marks, but overall fairly clean and binding O.K. (17x12cm)
