OTHER NOTES: According to the accompanying documentation this painting was collected at Maningrida c.1960. The documentation reads in part: 'When a boy is considered ready for circumcision somewhere between 5 to 12 years he is taking [sic] out into the bush by his uncles. They live on bush food and the boy is taught how to hunt for wallaby goanna and yams. He is also shown various symbols according to the age he has attained. In this painting the artist has depicted yams in the top half of the bark and in the lower section the artist has shown two young boys being instructed by their uncles. Wallaby is shown and the cloud totem (triangles) in the lower centre. Background pattern is the clan design representing bush'.
