Pettigrew's work was a summation of almost all that was known concerning Egyptian funerary practices. He compiled all the ancient sources and commented on them, as well as discussing many examples of mummified remains investigated by or known to him. Pettigrew was surgeon to Charing Cross Hospital. He gives an excellent account of embalming. He was surgeon to the Duchess of Kent as well known as an antiquary. Binding in full dark green Morocco with Egyptian design in gilt on sides and back.
