George Motherby was born in Yorkshire and attained his MD in Edinburgh in 1763. He was a Physician at Konigsberg, Prussia and then Highgate, Middlesex. George Wallis (1740-1802) was a physician who practised in York and then London. He was known for his practical and preventative medical approach. Motherby's Dictionary was one of the first of its kind medical reference books, used extensively by doctors and students. Rebound with new leather binding on original leather boards, well used, marks, shelf wear, japan tape end page, foxing and tanning with some large water clouds, plate 13 lacking bottom corner piece.
