FORDYCE, George. The Natural History of the Human Body by Dr. G. Fordyce Essex Street, Strand, London. Taken by J. Young surgeon. Bound manuscript of 251 pages. Pencil note inside front cover. 'Presented to H. B. by Dr. James Forbes Young, Sunday Febry 10th 1850. NB: these lectures are in the hand writing of Dr J. F. Young's father Jonathan Young Esqr. of Lambeth.' There is no date but probably in last quarter of 18th century. Fordyce (1736-1802) graduated in Edinburgh (1758) and came to London where he studied anatomy under William Hunter. He started his course of lectures in 1764. There are 34 lectures recorded on subjects such as Lymph, Mobility, Opinions of the ancients concerning the electric fluid of the nerves….etc. etc. Final 50 pages are a long discourse on 'the Human Bile from Maclurg's Experiments…' Later binding in quarter leather on plain paper boards. Dusting to the text block, contents clean and straight. Bookplate for K.F. Russell. (261x165mm)
