Jacques-Bénigne Winslow (1669-1760), 'one of the most brilliant anatomists of the eighteenth century', was born in Denmark but spent his career in France, serving as a professor of anatomy at the Jardin du Roi between 1742 and 1758. Full calf binding with later spine. Boards are bumped and marked. Front hinge splitting. Text heavily toned in many parts, folding plates are fair to poor with soiling, extraneous creases and some short tears. Henry Reynolds, surgeon, Ormskirk repeated several times on flyleaf and on fore edge a later signature of Reynolds, surgeon, Ormskirk 1815. Refer to images. (250x190mm)
