Bookplate: Ex Libris Anatomica KF Russell (280x440mm) 2) RYFF, M. GVALTHERI [Walter Herman Ryff] (c.1500-1548) 'Omnium Humani' (All Human) reproduction of prints 1500. The present facsimile edition was published in 1954 on behalf of Sandoz A.G. Basel, based on the original held by the Kupferstichkabinett of the Öffentliche Kunstsammlung BASEL, in an edition of 1500 copies; plus German lecture paper by Balthasar Beck on Walter Hermann Ryff 1541, 20 reproduced plates. 39pp. Ryff was a German physician who compiled knowledge specific to his time, but was criticized by Andrea Vesalius as being a plagiarist. Cream paper hardcover with printed title, much foxing and some tanning to pages. Collation: p2 (-1) A4 B-E2 ($1-2 signed) pp. [2] 1-23. Fabricius was professor of surgery and teacher of anatomy at Padua. He was the teacher of William Harvey. Almost certainly it was Fabricius by his lectures, who gave Harvey the basic idea of the circulation of the blood for Harvey worked out the function of the valves.
