Balfour at Endinburgh. MDCCLIX (1759) Title, pp [i]-xxxi, [1] leaf, 450pp., [1] leaf :: 5 plates. Porterfield was M.D. and Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. He obtained his M.D. at Rheins in 1717. He matriculated at Leyden in 1718 and studied there under Boerhaave. In 1728 the Royal College of Physicians of Eninburgh recommended the Town Court to appoint Porterfield as professor of physic and this was done in 1724. No evidence that he ever gave any lectures.
