Colonial Sydney Ephemera About 200 pieces of business ephemera discovered during a CBD demolition many years ago. Dating between 1853-1857, all relate to J.W. Benson, dealer in curled horsehair, mattress maker and pawnbroker of No.1 Druitt Street. Majority are receipts for goods supplied and receipts for monies paid, both to businesses and private citizens. Also some items relating to his pawnbroking. Noted receipts from Kent & Fairfax for printing pawn pledges, many weekly invoices from his local baker, rates notice from City of Sydney, bill of loading per ship 'Lydia', and many rent receipts from landlord Nobbs. Condition ranges from poor to fair, these have all been spiked, dust/soot burnt edges indicative of long storage in a roof space. Tears and losses, soiling, some paper very friable, though quite a quantity is on good rag paper.
