OTHER NOTES: Launched in 1902, London, the SS Commonwealth was named to mark Australia's federation in 1901. Built as an emigrant vessel, 'Commonwealth' was aimed at a better class of traveller. 75 saloon class passengers were accommodated in the bridge, and there were 300 third class berths. She was sold in 1910 to the P&O Steam Navigation Company. She served as a troopship for the Australian Expeditionary Force transport 1915-1917 before returning to civilian service. Finally sold for £14,100 in 1923 for demolition and scrap.
