Turner was a surgeon who later became a Licentiate of the Royal College of Surgeons. It was said of him that 'his cases are not stated in the most delicate terms; nor was politeness amongst his excellencies'. Rebound in leather spine and marbled boards, much foxing and tanning, some chips to title page, ink marks on endpaper. Bookplates: Ex Libris Anatomica KF Russell (195x117mm) 2) POTT, Percivall (1714-1788) 'The Chirurgial Works... a new edition with his last corrections, to which are added a short account of the life of the author, a method of curing the hydocele by injections and occasional noted and observations by James Earle'. Volume 1 only (1 of 3 volumes). Pub. LONDON: Printed for J Johnson... 1790. Collation: Title, pp[v]-viii, xlvpp, 477pp [1] leaf (adverts : 6 plates) Potts was known for his study of orthopaedics, incl. his work with chimney sweeps to assist in finding external causes for cancer. Pott's disease or tuberculosis of the spine, is named after him for his early description and analysis. In 1765 he was elected 'Master of the Company of Surgeons'. His pupils included John Hunter, James Earl & John Abernathy. Blue Buckram with title to spine, water stain to front end paper, foxing, tanning, shelf wear.
