Commences with a 19 page introduction quoting Sydney newspapers on the arrival of the first Catholic Bishop, Reverend Polding, in March 1843 on the Templar and the welcome from the Attorney General on behalf of the Colony's Catholics. Followed by a transcript of the strident anti-Papist protest given from the Altar of St. James Church by Robert Allwood 2 weeks later.
The bulk of this book are 6 subsequent lectures of a deeply theological nature refuting the claim of Papal Infallibility, given by Reverend Allwood. Ferg. 3544.
Title page has an ink gift inscription from W. …?... to J.D.L. (John Dunmore Lang)
Also includes an 1869 list of services at St. Andrews.
Publishers original quarter calf on brown paper boards has heavy corner bumping. Hinge line worn and loss to portion of title on the spine. Hinge cracked at title page. Text block dusted, contents have mild random foxing, binding good. Refer to images. (23x15cm)
