Wesleyan Book Depot, Melbourne 1869. 152pp. In May 1869, Reverend Hill entered the Pentridge Stockade cell of James Ritson who was serving a life sentence in isolation…known as the 'Silent System'. Ritson battered Hill to death with a part of his bed, and was convicted and hung in July. This memorial collection of some of his sermons is accompanied by a short biography. From the library of John Vincent Barry, Supreme Court Judge 1947-?, who was the founding chair Dept. of Criminology University of Melbourne. Contains pertinent note from Barry on Supreme Court notepaper. Original gilt stamped purple cloth boards are faded and age worn. Spine sunned with a little insect damage to the top.
