Russell notes that: 'In over 30 years I have only seen one other copy advertised in catalogues'. Includes a description and illustration of Chinese bound foot (p313). Hilton was surgeon to Guy's hospital and a member of the Council of the RCS and president 1876. He is famous for this work, one of the most significant surgical texts ever published. In it he stressed the necessity of rest and the importance to be placed on pain as a symptom. Later editions were called 'Rest and pain'.
