Erichsen was a Danish born Surgeon, who rose to President of the Royal College of Surgeons in Britain, President of the Royal Medical and Chirurgical Society and 'Surgeon-Extraordinary' to Queen Victoria. His specialties included 'concussion of the spine' for which he was called upon for court cases. Vol 1 & 2 are in similar condition: full blue calf leather prize binding with gold embossed border, title and flourishes on spine, marbled endpapers and page edges, dentelles, gold embossed University of Melbourne logo, presentation prize paper pasted to inner cover, tanning, minor shelf wear. Prize of University of Melbourne awarded to Harry Brookes Allen, 1872. Sir Henry Allen awarded prizes in each year of his medical course. Owners: Signed by GB Halford.
