Robert Dawson, published by Smith, Elder & Co. London 1831. Second edition (first 1830) 468pp. + 5 simple line illustrations. Dawson, sent out from Britain by the Australian Agricultural Company to select and create a large holding, arrived in 1825. After exploring and initiating a large enterprise north of Port Stephens he was re-called home in 1829. The bulk of this work deals with his expeditions and descriptions of Aboriginal culture and his interaction with the original inhabitants. Also, much description of colonial mores, the farming of crops and animals, and the convict scene. [Ferg.1427] This book has no boards or spine. Complete between its fly leaves. Text block dusted, however the contents are very clean and straight, with just a couple of marks in the text. Attests to very little handling. Overall binding is good. First 4 pages are separating, otherwise tight. (21x14cm)
