Documentation verso, 'Emu was given to the artist's ancestors in the Dreamtime as one of their main totems. At certain times of the year, Emu Dance was performed in sacred ceremonies, and the artist paints various creatures such as animals, brolgas, and even human figures, with emu feet. The pattern of this emu's body is the artist's clan design, handed down to him through the ages.'
