Straus says that if the book was originally written in French then the translator was Robert SAMBER, otherwise he was the author. It was one of the books savagely attacked by Daniel Defoe in the Weekly Journal to which Curll replied by printing Curlicism Display'd on 31 May 1718 It is probably that the work, if not actually translated from, is based on Ancillon's Trait‚ des eunuques, dans lequet an explique les differeutes sortes d'eunuques quuet rang it saut tenu, and quet cas on en a fait. n.p. 1707. Impressed brown leather cover with golf leaf title on spine, some cracking on top of spine, chipping and marks, some bleeding of the leather colour to endpapers and pages, minor foxing and tanning, minor speckling p. 2 & 3, penned notes opposite title page.
