Appointed Bengal Medical Department October 1819. 1838 Senior Surgeon to force under Shah Shoojah-ool-Moolk and present at Ghuznee 1839. In 1841 served in force under General Sale to clear passes through Ghilzee country to Jellalabad and present at all actions. P.M.O. to force besieged in Jellalabad and after its relief on 7 April 1842 joined General Pollock's army and present at all actions fought between Jellalabad and Cabul. Secretary to Medical Board 1843. Apothecary-General 1852. Superintending Surgeon 1853. Director General Bengal Medical Department 1857. Honorary Physician to the Queen 1861. Retired April 1862. Service: Ghuznee 1839; Jellalabad 1842; Cabul 1842 and Indian Mutiny.
