Mayo (1796-1852) was a student of Charles Bell and later surgeon to the Middlesex Hospital. In 1826 with Caesar Hakins he purchased Bell's interest in the Great Windmill Street School and carried it on until 1830. Professor of Anatomy King's College and of comparative anatomy at RCS. Did much to foster the medical school at Middlesex Hospital. Original binding of half leather on marbled boards is aged and stained, worn to the edges with the loss to top of the spine. Preliminaries heavily foxed. Bulk of the contents are very clean and undisturbed. Bookplate, Russell's first iteration pre Ex Libris Anatomica. (220x144mm)
