John Grosvenor (1742-1823) was very successful in applying massage (or friction) to patients with disabled joints. He was one of the earliest surgeons in England to do this. A surgeon to the Radcliffe Infirmary at Oxford from 1770-1817 where he introduced a "rubbing nurse" to the Infirmary. Plain papered boards with later spine (retaining original title) are marked and worn. Uncut text is overall quite clean. On the back fly leaf is: "Oxford Infirmary Nov 3rd 1825.
