Artist Unknown Mr Gamaliel Butler (1783-1852), Van Diemen's Land, c.1824. The subject was a lawyer who established a law firm in Hobart after arriving in 1824. He became a significant landowner, supporter of charitable causes, and eventually a director of the bank of Van Diemen's Land.
